The man behind the word “Hublot” is Carlo Crocco. He was born in 1944 and expected to inherit the Binda Group, his uncle’s company. This company was a family legacy that specialized in the manufacture of Breil watches. Nonetheless, in 1976, at the age of 32 years, Crocco decided to break away and establish his own business.
Crocco was firmly set in realizing his vision for unique watch design. Crocco accumulated around $4 million to form his brand in Nyon, Switzerland, in 1980. His company’s original name was MDM Geneva and its iconic product is the Hublot watch with its gold covering, rubber strap and alluringly sophisticated design; the watch was introduced at the prestigious Baselworld watch fair. Members of royalty and celebrities became true fans of the brand as the Hublot watch moved forward to make history.

In 2005, Jean-Claude Biver was appointed CEO of the brand. He was highly competent and soon launched the brand’s flagship collection, Big Bang. It was an instant success and went on to win the Best Design prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie of Geneva. The exceptional collection of sports watches manufactured were a blend of sophistication and comfort. Big Bang watches have the distinctive feature of being made by combining unusual materials, such as pink gold and kevlar, gold and ceramics or rubber and tantalum.
In 2008, the Big Bang’s version of a ladies collection, the Classic Fusion, was introduced, it consisted of red classic fusion (characteristic of a rubber strap and red gold case), Big Bang Purple Carat (derivation of the Tutti Frutti range), this remarkable timepiece has a pink gold case adorned with amethysts and a purple rubber strap.
Soon the LVMH group arrived on the scene and purchased the luxury brand. In 2011, Hublot became the official watchmaker of Formula one. A special design collection: Big Bang Ferrari was introduced in which the Magic Gold design gained popularity. Today, Hublot watches have a strong foothold in the watch industry and the brand is at ease in defying conventionality; creating spectacular and groundbreaking designs.
