Ilias Lalaounis, a Greek jeweler and silversmith, is the founder of one of the most renowned Greek jewelry brands – Lalaounis. In 1941, during the Second World War, he took control of the family business that was formerly linked to the Zolotas house; which too belonged to the same family. It mainly features 18k and 22k jewelry creations made in gold of a specific hue and quality. Ilias acquired inspiration from the works of his ancestors in creating pieces depicting powerful lines and uniqueness. He was highly impressed by Greek art and culture, his original jewelry designs being influenced by Neolithic, Mycenaean, Hellenistic, and classical times; inspirations that are used continuously.
Ilias, on the completion of his study of the art of ancient Greek metalworking, developed a vision capable of bringing to life Greek museum artifacts; combining ancient manufacturing techniques with the best of modern technology. Apart from the historical inspirations of the jewelry pieces, the history of their designs and creation is very alluring. Lalaounis crafting methods date back to thousands of years and include hand weaving, filigree, granulation, and repoussé.
